I mean, I could have links in the ebooks to where readers can download the games, but having them on the Patreon results in providing more value for a tier, as well as making it easier to keep everything organized in one place. If I use Patreon, I can provide these to people through the different tiers as easily as the writing. I'm planning to create some different, little, video game experiences to go along with the writing releases from time to time. The most that's really needed for Patreon is a background image for the page and some art for the different tier icons.ģ. On Patreon, I could also just have one cover done for a whole arc of novella releases, but also on Patreon, I don't even actually need covers at all. With smaller, frequent releases, the costs will add up quick. The thing is, if I'm releasing novellas on Amazon, I'll need unique covers for every release unless I bundled a bunch of novellas into one. I want to pay for good, illustrated artwork wherever it's needed. I'm a video game artist/developer, and I love good art. I think I'll have better success with episodic novellas on Patreon than on Amazon, as Patreon seems better suited to that sort of thing, while every stat I've seen says that novellas don't sell anywhere near as well as novels on Amazon.Ģ. Follow-ups will probably be more around 25-35k words, so novellas. However, the nature of the stories I want to tell from there lends themselves better to a more episodic approach. This first book is going to come in around 70k words, so it's novel length. Let me list my reasons why and tell me if you think it's the better option for me:ġ. If Amazon, I'd just release as people normally do on there. That said, I suppose I could take it off Patreon when it's done and then put it in KU, but that would then be removing value for the Patreon readers. I know I wouldn't be able to put it on kindle unlimited because it would still be published on my Patreon. Then, when the book was complete, I'd look at bundling it all up and releasing it on Amazon. If Patreon, I'd do it like a lot of writers on there do and release it chapter by chapter, giving the higher tiers access to chapters a week before the lower ones. I'm thinking either on Patreon or Amazon. I've got a book almost finished, but I'm unsure of how I should start publishing.
